Walk 1

…its like beating the bounds or what I imagine that is ,our own version

not land ownership but sea ownership, which, of course, is not human

this was sea once and I am edging it

the boundary we seek is lived/lined by trees – oaks, beech, birch, oak apples

walking on water, walking where there should be sea, where there was, where there might be

footsteps fill with water as I go

land so close to being water

this oak four full arms width around, we measured

maybe it stood and grew near the sea and watched its slow withdrawal

this is our shoreline whether its here or not

the imaginary sea that is this journey
